Hello all!

Just went into a well known game retailer in my town to look at gear of war. Yes you read right, look! Im skint :p

The 360 they had on show amused me immensly. I went over to it to play some gears of war but all the screen said was "no input" and the red ring of death on the 360 :D

Just thinking of getting some more warranty on my 360. I brought mine off my sisters boyfriend who got it off the bay. Its almost ran out of its years warranty but do microsoft do a extended warranty or the like?

thanks

You shouldn't need it, the Sale of Goods Act protects you regarding faulty products. Even after the 1 year guarantee the seller (ie, whatever game shop you bought it from) is obligated to fix it or offer a replacement. If the console is a few years old you may have to pay something, but I reckon it'd be cheaper than paying for insurance you may never need. :)

How does this work as its obvious if you take it back past 1 year they will say its over the 1 year warranty. What do you say to them as i cant imagine getting very far to be honest. I see what you are saying but putting it into practice im sure will be fun and games, as they arent just going to swap it without a fight.

I'd just take in a copy of the Sales of Goods Act and remind them of their legal obligations. If they still refused to sort me out, I'd get my phone out and call Trading Standards while still in the store, I'm sure that would get the message across ;)

They rely on consumer ignorance and unwillingness to fight the battle to get away with 99.99% of these issues.
Your receipt states "your statutory rights are unaffected" - never wondered what that really meant?
I've successfully had various repairs and refunds under the SoGA including one to a 3 year old cooker.
Simply state your rights and if necessary in writing and contact trading standards and consumer direct as soon as the store acts up.
