Just wont stick to OC

I have tried numerous setups to try and overclock, Top end, 3.6GHZ and then played a safe 3.2GHZ has what OCUK have said it will do stable. Now When I try to get an OC setup and then click save and exit BIOS, the pc shuts down to apply new settings. But I notice will never boot up sucessfully when the machine automatically boots itself up again, it will just start up but nothing will run just a blank back screen.

So, I turn it off then boot up again. Now normally this will boot upto windows fine and save the settings but checking just in Coretemp and going back into BIOS on re-booting, the clock speed and everything resets itself to factory settings and will not save any of the previous setup.

Anyone know why this is going on?

I have :
ABIT INTEL IX38 Quad GT
Intel Q6600 stock @ 2.4GHZ
Geil Black dragon 1066 2x2GB
and a 9800 GX2
Vista home premium 64-bit
and my HDD space is within 152Gb free will this affect such settings?

Also even though with any Overclock, I struggle to get any good framerates with graphic settings over AFx4 and AAx4, surely the setup I had before could cope with more without lagging.

Before I had it at 3.5GHz and FSB:DRAM ratio was 1:1
But on games like Railworks they sank a lot and average around 35fps and Arma II was laggy. It's annoying me now tbh. I have had this working Overclocked before. now it wont just save it.

Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks

just a thought did u check if your cmos battery voltage is ok? it should be 3V lower that that could lose settings...but @ times when OC fail could also lead to factory settings...

I thought of this, but I'm running mine on a dead battery at the mo. You only lose the overclock settings once you turn the power off at the wall.

To overclock my q6600 on IX38 to 3.6ghz, the only settings I need to change are*
  • Shutdown on no cpu fan (cant remember the exact wording - and not applicable here unless you have your air cooler plugged into a different header)
  • CPU volts to 1.57 (yeah, I dont run my 3.25 vid chip at 3.6 normally!)
  • 400fsb
  • Memory divider to 1:1 - which you already mention.
Everything else is ok on auto.

*Though I'm not suggesting you couldnt also look at memory timings etc.
