No news article here i'm afraid just a rant from your average joe.

4 years ago i had a horrible experience where me and my friend were abducted and held for a day which as you can probably guess is a horrible experience, espically when the guy has a gun!

To cut a long story short, we managed to escape and ring the police thanks to a lovely lady who let us in her house.

He was caught and sentenced, but i've just been informed that he could be out of jail soon on GOOD behaviour...

I can't explain how i feel and i just can't bear the thought of this guy being out again where he could do it all over again.

I'm considering moving away from the area and just try and get away from it, but that's easier said then done.

Not a good start to the day :(

Sorry, but I immediately thought of this.

If we didnt let people out early for good behaviour they would have no incentive not to walk around beating prison guards up, having fights and generally being morons.

Make your concerns know to the local probation office and police station, I'm sure his probation officer will take them into account and make sure the fella stays well clear of you.

What's the background to this story btw? (If you care to share that is).

I don't think many of us could possibly fathom how wretched that must make you feel. The first thing I would do is enquire as to what supervision he would be under and inform the police of your concerns.

I would imagine he will have some sort conditions set on his release, hopefully meaning if he comes anywhere near you or your friend would mean being put back inside.

There is always the option to make their sentences much longer if you dont behave. Never understood the good behavior rule. There isnt a huge amount to do in prison, its not like they leave money and drugs out to test you. Prison sentences shouldnt be reduced for good behavior, only lengthened for bad.

And what about those serving sentances meaning that they've no real hope of getting out? Without concessions for good behaviour what incentive do they have not to be a violent abusive animal? A man with no hope is a dangerous man indeed.

Because there's the incentive to walk away early via good behaviour yet another deterrent against doing the crime in the first place is removed.

I understand what your saying Fox but i have to say that in a lot of cases I'm sure they use this to free spaces up in our already over filled jails. I would say they should build more prisons and rant on but I know it wont get anywhere so ill save everyone that ranting joy :p

Sorry, it wasn't as exciting as that :p

I'm going to ring them later and find exactly what will happen when/if he gets released.

It's not something i like talking especially on a forum, especially this one! I'm not saying that you guys will take the mick or anything but i just don't like talking about it when i don't really know any of you guys.

Sorry.

You don't get early release automatically for good behaviour for sentences longer than 3 years and 9 months. Could do with stopping putting people in prison for not paying TV licences and first time shop lifting offences and using the resources available to keep people like this inside for longer.

Sentences cannot be increased without a trial...

They get increased frequently for drug possession etc I thought.
