Hi there, i'm having a problem with video / audio playback on my desktop pc. I'm not sure at all where the problem lies but its really starting to annoy me. When ever playing a video file or streaming video or audio content from the internet i occasionally get justtery sound. Every few seconds the audio goes quite choppy and i think it ever so slightly affects the video.

I've noticed this also when playing games. Choppy audio every few seconds, but the choppy video is even more noticeable here as i'm closer to the screen and can feel the slow down when playing fast paced games etc.

I think i've got uptodate drivers on everything but am not sure whats causing it. Its mainly after boot up that i get the problem which then fades away mostly. When playing games i have to close and reopen a few times when it happens to get rid of it.

Spec

i7 930 2.8ghz
6gb ram
Gigabyte mobo
windows 7 64bit

Any ideas?

Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've got all my drivers up to date and still seem to have this problem. Just recently updated the chipset drivers and thought that had fixed until i restarted next day and same problem. Its really starting to annoy me now. Its like this every time i boot up and sometimes just cant get rid of it by rebooting etc.

I've got a fairly old creative audigy sound card installed but i still get the same problem when plugging into the motherboard sound output (even more so maybe). Its like a digital distortion of some kind every other second or so..especially when volume is louder or lots is going on screen. Its even there on the windows startup music...

So its not just problem with streaming / watching films or games etc....really not sure whats going on.

Do you think if i unplugged the audigy card, that might solve it?

Are you sure windows is still using the chipset drivers you installed and not auto updated to ones from windows update?

Have you tried running a chkdsk on your hard drive and also defragging?

Is far as im aware windows is using the new installed chipset drivers...I install them and restart as normal.

I'm not os sure however about the realtek sound drivers. When i install them it says it has to do it in 2 stages. 1: uninstall current drivers then reboot. 2:install new drivers and reboot.

After i do step 1 (uninstall and reboot) it looks as though windows 7 starts downloading and installing its own drivers before i get a chance to install my new downloaded set.

Is there a way of stopping windows from doing this? or is this correct?

cheers
