Is it worth me declaring this?, I have one coming tomorrow for my Focus, but presuming an air filter is just classed as a consumable I shouldn't need to right?, fair enough it may change performance over a standard Motorcraft filter but then it's also arguable a Bosch Filter could differ from the standard Motorcraft Ford filter performance wise. So where do you cross the line here?

Will I be OK?

I would never consider declaring a replacement panel filter. There isn't a Ford branded one in my Mondeo for example.

it fits in the box out of the way its not obvious, it also doesnt say k&n on it.

i wouldnt tell them about it.

Just found out Direct Line don't allow engine mod's to anyone under 25, so I couldn't even declare it even if I wanted to

Ideas?

It's isn't a mod. It's just a different brand of the same component surely?

Also, tell me if it makes any difference to anything, so i know before I get one myself ;)

Ideas? Just don't say anything. The chance of them finding it and knowing its a non standard filter is a million to one.

Technically you should declare anything mechanical that is a deviation from the manufactures specification. Genuine and pattern parts won't change the performance. The K&N is advertised to do exactly that (debatable ;))

Check your policy wording, what does it say about underwriters liability wrt claims and omissions? Is there a declaration for any performance modifications?

As said above its unlikely they would notice the panel if you have an inspection after an accident. Its still a gamble, albeit a very tiny one.

Would not think it worth mentioning to the insurance. For all you know it could have been there when you bought the car used. And as for the effects someone asked, you will probably get a deeper induction noise and not anything else :)

A little deeper induction noise and perhaps a touch more performance is all I want/would ask out of it :D

They're pretty good in as much as they're easy to clean and re-usable. Iirc you get a 'tube of lube' for the first clean, long term there's some nice ITG filter spray that I use, thats lasted years.
