k|ngp|n has held it for ages with the 680, but it's now been beaten by nearly 800 points by SniperOZ with a 7970

I imagine that the 680 is rather vram bandwidth limited at anything above 1500MHz GPU core. The 7970 should scale much better at extreme GPU clocks because the GPU is the bottleneck.
From what I have seen, the 12.11 drivers level the field clock for clock at normal overclock frequencies and resolutions. The 7970 was always better at extreme resolution, again due to memory bandwidth.
