K800i Joystick

I'm on an o2 online contract and have a K800i on an 18 month contract, i'm about 9 months into the contract and the joystick thing is really starting to play up, basically it doesn't work anymore unless you apply loads of pressure, a common problem i'm told.

Is this a valid warranty claim? is it as simple as sending it back and getting a replacement 5 days later?

Also I vaguely remember when i signed up my contract the woman said I could get an upgrade after 12 months, even though it was a 18 month contract, this sound right ?

valid warranty claim yep , you just need to take it to o2 shop. I'm pretty sure its just a plastic seal around the joystick if memory serves me right
 
Well my k810i started playing up yesterday doing what you have just said. I just did a firmware upgrade and thats sorted it for some unknown reason :S.
I also had this trouble with my N73.. I just installed a new joystick my self though.
 
Had exactly the same problem with my k800i also on an online O2 contract. Dust and dirt gets into the seal around the joystick. I took the phone to carphone warehouse where they took it off me and sent it off for repair / clearning. Took about 2/3 days and was all free. I presume O2 have an agreement with the carphone warehouse or something, still dont understand it all but it works, so enjoy :)
 
My k800i was fantastic when I got it.

Now 15 months into the contract the joystick sticks and the charger won't stay inside the phone to charge unless carefully wedged inbetween two objects.

Luckily I can upgrade soon, don't think I will be getting another SE this time, the charger issue really gets old fast.

charger also has a 24 month warranty ;)
 
Yeah, the joystick is a common problem due to dust/dirt. Get it repaired/replaced under warrenty. Never anything about the charger problem though.

I had mine k800i for over a year now. everything still works fine and I still love it. :) Not many phones I wanted when my upgrade was due so I got a better tariff deal instead.
 
I'm in the same position as hittman. I've had my SE K800i since Sept 2006, everything still working fine and still happy with it. Fancied upgrading to the new K850i (i think it is) but was being asked for £100 so haven't bothered and stuck with the K800i.

As reppyboyo suggested, get a corner bit of a piece of cardboard and try cleaning around the joystick? Otherwise as also said, try getting it fixed/replaced. Good luck!
 
A small (clean!) paintbrush works really well for cleaning around the stick. It's what I use with my K810i.
