This is a long story. I constructed a new computer, all well and dandy, lovely jubly for a while. Then bam nothing. Everything turned on but I got no display and no beep. After testing everything I could I came to the conclusion that the motherboard had fried. So I got a new one and tried installing it today.

And it all went **** up.

I put it all in and wired everything up but it only did the feeble start where it all flicks on then off again. So I fiddled about a bit and then it went mental. It was switching itself on while the psu switch was off, and while it was, the front power button didn't work, it switched itself on again but it was very feeble, like the flicker start but it stayed on pathetically.

And now I have absolutly nothing. Nothing turns on or anything.

Advice?

If it was switching itself on while the PSU was switched off you have a very serious PSU problem. The switch on some PSUs is a hard breaker, removing all incoming power.

I've just tried another psu I've knocking around, plugged it all in and all I got was long loud beeps continuously.

This is fun eh?

The psu I'm actually using is a hiper type-r series 480W

Ouch, those are the PSUs most notable for their high premature death rate. There's a chance the PSU dies and took out the mobo with it.

I'd tell you to test the PSU with another mobo, to see if we should blame the PSU or the mobo, but I'm afraid such advice might lead to killing the test mobo as well.

If my brand spanking new mobo got taken out by a wayward PSU then I'm gonna kill someone.

Well the psu is still under warranty as is the mobo so I suppose I can get them all replaced.
