At the moment I'm using a skylake i3 6320 and I'm wanting to upgrade my cpu this year, I'm thinking of upgrading to an i5 and have seen the kabylake chips, will they fit the motherboard I currently have? as both are the 1151 socket.

Thanks

no, you'll have to update the bios then upgrade the processor... it's not an automatic process

bios updates aren't that painful to do, most manufactures have a pretty simple walkthrough with the download that'll show you how to do it step by step :D

You just download the latest bios and transfer it to a usb stick. Reboot the pc and enter the bios. In the tools section you will find Gigabytes Q-Flash tool. Click on that and point it to the usb stick and let it do it's thing. When the bios is flashed it will reboot itself or ask you to reboot. Do not use any windows based bios flashing software. From a i3 I would probably skip the i5 and just get a i7 for the maximum upgrade.
