Hi all

Going to treat myself to a 4k gaming rig, been out of the PC market for literally years, I've did my research and came up with this, god things have changed lol. I wouldn't dare manually build this lol.

Screen: Asus
PB287Q 28" 3840x2160 TN 4K 60Hz 1MS Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor
Case: be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Full Tower Gaming Case - Orange
Mobo: Asus ROG Strix Z270E Gaming Intel Z270 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz (Kaby Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail
CPU cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B30 (This stuff any good?)
Graphics: Asus GeForce GTX 1080 DirectCU III Strix Advanced Gaming Aura RGB 8192MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics
M.2: Samsung PM961 Polaris 128GB M.2-2280 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe Solid State Drive (For Windows)
Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (ST2000DM006)
PSU: Corsair RM Series RMi 1000 '80+ Gold' 1000W Modular Power Supply (CP-9020084-UK)

Thanks for the advice.

How do the overclockers staff arrange the lighting strips?, are they usually displayed at the top or the bottom of the case?.
 
I would try and aim for a bigger SSD as a 128GB will fill up very fast. A 250GB would be the minimum I would go for in a new gaming pc.

Was thinking of just using the M.2 for Windows and the 2tb drive for game installs?.

Do you think it would be worth changing from:

Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (ST2000DM006) to a Samsung 250GB 750 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive?

I use a 128gb nvme for Windows only. Its fine.

Will the 250gb ssd be the only other hard drive in your computer? If it will be, then it's too small iny opinion. Can you afford a 1tb ssd? If not, consider getting a 250gb ssd for games and a platter drive for other stuff.

Thanks for your advice, can't afford a 1tb ssd, however I'm going for:

Yay!.

Just noticed overclockers have added extra choices to the power supply drop down list:

PSU: Super Flower Leadex II 1000W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - Black

Can't find any reviews on the internet for these?, are they any good?
 
Super flower is a great PSU brand. But has others have suggested try to downgrade to a lower wattage (if it gives the option) since you don't need the extra power.

with modern tech I believe you can use RAM, SSD's etc to boost the speed of mechanical drives.

You could use like a 3TB mechanical drive as your main drive then a 128GB SSD as a "readyboost" drive. Effectively you get all the performance of a SSD but with 3TB of storage. 128GB worth of commonly accessed data would be cached on the SSD.

then you with large amounts of RAM you can also use that as a cache meaning less loading from the hard drives too.

Thanks for your help, in the end i went with the 1000w SuperFlower II option, as Overclockers had a nice discount on it, it didn't cost much more than the 850w SuperFlower II psu (850w was the minimum option to choose from).

This sounds absolutely brilliant, I'll have to read up on this and see how to set it up, thanks for your help to.
 
Just a quick update on my build progress, I'm so excited to say that....

Thanks again to everyone for your advice, I've been out of the computer loop for many years and I feel like a total amateur with how technology has advanced so much.

Didn't know what a M.2 drive was until a few weeks ago lol.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it so much lol, I think I've become abit of a addict with the RGB lighting stuff.

Is SLI still worth looking into?, I heard nvidia dropped support for anymore than 2 card's?.
 
I'm still looking for a graphics card myself, waiting on Vega to see how prices adjust (and because not gaming yet on my pc). From my research I've seen the general reccomendation to go for a more powerful single card vs sli due to less than favourable support in games.
 
I'd be interested to see the benchmark comparisons between the current cards and the Vega ones.

I really want to install all the Asus software for my graphics card and motherboard, it appears that Asus have divided each section into separate downloads (for my motherboard I have separate sections for WiFi, vga, chipset, audio and so fourth). I'm really interested in installing the full amount so I can configure my aura RGB and view other options about my motherboard.

Debating whether to get an external dvd drive and install the disc that comes with it, think it would be quicker than manually installing each section?. There's a lot of stuff in the utilities section which I don't understand and know if I need?.

I just want the Asus suite software with everything bundled in.
