Writing this on my laptop.

My main computer is plugged into a surge protected extension lead.

Consists of an Opteron in a DFI LanParty NF4 SLI motherboard.

Came upstairs to see it turned off, as an attempt to turn it on i have nothing. The PSU (Hiper 550w modular) still has a light on at the back so im guessing the PSU is fine? But the motherboard has no lights on it at all, could the board be blown? If so, i've owned it over a year but not quite 2 years so do i RMA it to DFI instead of OcUK?

Help, thanks, lol

Andy

If you do an RMA with DFI you have to post to the netherlands, works out cheaper to get a new mobo i seem to remember.

to test the PSU

1 paper clip or peice of wire

1 suspect PSU

1 fan or hdd

unplug everything

strip the paper clip or wire until the metal is exposed

connect one end to the green cable on the MB connector and the other end to any black cable on the MB connector on the PSU

plug in fan or HDD

plug in power lead

turn on PSU

hope the fan/hdd spins up

turn off and take apart

How would i turn the PSU on though if it's not conneted to te board as there will be no switch to turn it on?

The only switch is the power one on the back, is that all it needs?

Andy

the green to black connection makes the PSU think its connected to a MB

all you need is the switch on the back of your PSU or the one on your wall to turn it on and off

Ok, i just connected a hard drive, put the paper clip in and nothing.

The light is on the power switch, but no life at all.

How would i go about testing it with a Multi Meter?

Andy

Found a guide and tested it but no luck, so the PSU is busted, sends it off to hiper.

Need to find another PSU to test my motherboard with.
