Hit the alt + F2 keys at the same time.

Then type "update-manager -d" in the terminal without the quotation marks.

At the top of the screen you get, there will be a choice to get the upgrade version.

This won't be much different to Jaunty as yet, will it? Apart from Grub 2, using ext4 by default (rather than as an option) and a slightly different kernel there aren't actually that many differences yet, are there?

I'm going to try upgrading my Jaunty box [had some graphics issues] to Karmic, seeing as the VM worked well in Windows 7. Upates soon...

edit: just read that the current version of GRUB2 doesn't support Multiboot - this'll be intersting

Muktiboot works, but Xorg cr4ps itself entirely and locks up the whole system. Can get to terminal, but not ay kind of formal graphics interface.

Bah. Any suggestions? No other GPUs for me to use here at the moment

What are advantages of EXT4? I'm running Jaunty UNR on my Acer Aspire One, would EXT4 slow it down at all?

Should do. If not, Virtualbox has always been a tasty alternative to Parralells on the Mac - to the degree that it's all I use for VMing when I'm on the works iMac 24".
