hi

my Kaspersky internet security 2013 only has 2 days left. I've always used Kaspersky internet security products.

but I would like to know which one is better, Kaspersky internet security 2013 or windows 8 security?

MSE has been slated in various publications, there are other free options available.

AVAST and AVG seem to be held in high regard.

If you can afford a paid solution I would always recommend ESET security suite

+1 for kaspersky, get 3 free licences through the barclays deal and the android version.

I always refer to the testing these people do, evaluate what has high heuristic capability and low false positives.

Use the built-in Windows Defender.

You should focus on keeping your system patched. Secunia PSI is your friend.

I always keep my OS up to date, but if I can get Kaspersky for free i'd prefer that over the built-in Windows Defender

I am really reluctant to pay for antivirus software. Free antiviruses such as Comodo, AVG, Avast can often do equally well.

I have found AVG Free to be pretty poor in the last few years.

I am talking about all software, not just the OS. Browser, PDF reader, plug-ins, etc.

I find Kaspersky far to intrusive.
Free: MSE or Avast
Paid: ESET NOD32 or Sophos

If you're happy with Kaspersky and feel better for using it, stick with Kaspersky.

I've always found it a resource hog personally and not worth the tradeoff, but that's just me.

Indeed it was not that long ago, I think it did have an engine update in the past 10 days, but who's to say if that improved matters or not.

If people did, we wouldn't have a huge malware problem.

Certain apps still lack auto update, so a manual approach is often required.
