I've just had an email from Barclays telling me I'm entitled to a free download of Kaspersy Internet Security. I've checked and there's a Mac version.

Reviews of older versions seem to be quite negative but the newest version gets decent reviews.

I've never even considered AV on my Mac before. I don't share files with Windows systems very often, there aren't any Windows PCs on my network.

Given that it's free and the risk to OS X seems to be increasing, what does everyone think? I've always taken the "meh" attitude when it comes to Mac AV software.

1) Backup
2) Keep all software up-to-date
3) Configure your browser (Firefox or Chrome) to use click-to-play mode.
4) Don't run the Java web plug-in.

I can only comment on the Windows version but it hasn't given me any issues and doesn't slow the system down noticeably. I've been using the Barclay's offer for 3 years.

If it's the total Security version then it's very comprehensive and might need a bit of adjusting to stop it intruding in general use.

You can usually upgrade to 5 device license for ~£10 as well.
