kaspersky internet security

Its full AV and firewall, although it doesnt seem apparent when installed but they seem to categorise virus as malware so its not well publicised unless you download and read the manual. It does do autoupdates everyday so it is there and I can right click on files and folders and choose Scan like all other AV apps and found no performance issues.
I got it free with my online banking and I think there's a thread about it somewhere.
I found it quite fiddly to configure the firewall with application rules at first but having had a good read it looks more configurable than Norton - finally ditching them for good!

Personally I wouldn't use the Internet Security Versions of anything .
I think it's better to use separate Anti-virus - Anti-spyware and Firewall .The McAfee and Norton versions ground your PC's down to nearly a halt .
I'm curently using Kaspersky AV 2009 with the new Comodo Firewall .It's a very good combination . Although the new Comodo is classed as Comodo Internet Security .......Firewall and Defence . The Defence monitors ALL installations ie .registry changes , new installed files & folders ,but , can be turned OFF. No problems so far .
I'm also using the free version of SuperAntiSpyware for spyware/malware defence .

Kaspersky Internet security DOES include the exact same AV as Kaspersky AV.
Internet security suites ALWAY have av.

Oh really? Hmm...might get the free 2009 internet security thing from Barclays then if it contains the full AV. I can get rid of Spybot S&D and Avira, one less program to run.

I had the full Kaspersky internet security but it's a pain in the ass when ever you want to connect anything to your PC, it really is. No matter what it always ended up with having to turn it off before things would work properly.

Perfect if you're paranoid about security but if connecting lots of things to your PC is important I'd forget it.

I now just use the anti-virus of Kaspersky.

What do you mean connect things to your PC, a network or a e.g. a USB flash drive?

Is there a way of temporarily bringing it down without taking it out?

Ah I see, cheers for letting us know about that.

I'm already finding Avira over zealous at times as it is...

What hardware do you have btw? Is there a possibility there's a confliction or something there? What version did you use? I've not heard of this problem before that's all. :)

That was with my old PC which I've now upgraded, obviously haven't carried it over.

Windows XP SP3
AMD XP3200+
Abit NF7-S v2.0 - onboard LAN
D-Link Router
Virgin 20mb Broadband

There probably were some conflicts somewhere as routers also act as firewalls and I had Peer Guardian installed. I find things can get messy with too much security, so I just use one thing for each job now... so much simpler.

Hmm interesting, I'm finding some people have had problems like yours, but always on XP, not really on Vista. Also I've found a few that hadn't uninstalled their previous protections well enough (re: Norton).

I thought the same but having looked through pages of the manual its very easy now and very configurable which is what I prefer. I get hardly any warnings. You decide what and when you want to be prompted, or you can just allow what you know and never be asked again. If you turned it off and left yourself vulnerable rather than learn to configure, then you probably would have blamed it for not protecting you if something bad did happen.
Even Norton. ZoneAlarm and Comodo told me if something was happening, so its no different.
I now prefer it over anything else I have tried and it comes down to it learning your preferences, everyone has different levels of security.
It can prompt you when it tries to get an IP address from your ADSL router, and it can prompt you when a Sandisk Cruzer is trying to run U3 launcher, but then you can tell it to remember your preferences so it doesnt ask again.
In my opinion, if it didnt detect these things, it wouldnt really be a good security program would it? Its not telepathic.

Never had any problems like this when connecting anything with KIS under xp or vista. It could be that the firewall needed configuring properly. Often when you don't configure KIS properly when you first connect a device it can lead to problems which are easily rectified from within its settings.

I'm far from a n00b who has no clue, I spent hours configuring and messing about with settings. Sometimes it would work perfectly, next day wouldn't work at all, etc. Just basically a pain and who can be arsed spending hours configuring stuff everytime you need to do something... honestly?

Like I said, it's great if you're paranoid but it's not simple and user friendly imho. A new user could have a nightmare with it I reckon.

End of the day if using a router that's setup properly do you need something like that?

Have used KIS for 2 years now, and never experienced and problems when connecting other devices; using it on XP Pro and Vista 32 & 64 bit installs.

The Barclays offer (3 licenses for KIS) was a nice one....

Ok I've just downloaded and installed it. Pulled all my programs onto the trust applications list and it seems to be running pretty well.

Just one thing, I don't use I.E., and it doesn't appear to be picking up on the fact I have Opera installed.
