Hello

I had bought Antivir AV and was running it along with Comodo FW.

However I got notified by Comodo that something was trying to connect to the Internet, which I blocked. I can't remember its file name. I did a search for the filename and found it could be a Trojan.

So I did a system scan and Antivir reported my system as being clean.

I noticed a newly created folder on my C drive and inside was a number of files, one of them being a password checker / reader for Firefox and another text file which contained 18 pages worth of various login user names and passwords of various accounts that I have used over the time that I have had FF installed. This folder had just been created and occurred at the same time that I got the message from Comodo.

I deleted the above folder.

I removed Antivir and installed Kaspersky and did a system scan. It found a file which contained a Trojan...

The file was deleted and my system now checks as clean.

I now using a master password for FF, although I do not keep any banking type passwords saved. I have noticed that Kaspersky 2009 comes with a Firewall. Just how good is that firewall within Kaspersky.? As I also still have Comodo installed and I guess that it isn't a good thing to have two software FW's installed together.? Is it as good as Comodo, which I have always enjoyed using..?

BTW I have just bought Kaspersky 2009 with a one years license for three machines for £12 so it seems a good buy :)

Nice little story and glad it caught it before infecting it further :)

Same here I gone off the free ones...theres no such thing as a free lunch as they say!

Currently using Kaspersky Internet Security (thank to barclays) its free for 1 year! I will renew after though

@Mikoyan, when installing "Kaspersky Internet Security" does it give you the option to just install the AV and not the firewall. I'm with Barclays as well and thought this would be a no brainer for the wife's rig, but i don't want a software firewall installed.

@Mikoyan - it was a premium version (paid) of Antivir :(

@kitfit1 You can buy just the AV rather than the entire suite. I got the suite at a good price and then looked at the custom install. I might not be understanding the options but I did not see the option just to install the AV. Having installed the entire suite though I'm impressed at how light it seems to be.
Comodo has now been removed, along with Antivir, and Kaspersky, hopefully, will do what I need.

FWIW some details of the contents of the trojan...
The password scanner was called Firepassword version 2.5 Firefox username and password list decryptor by Nagareshwar

FF has now been changed to Opera.

You can configure it to enable any programs you wish :)
