Barclays is pulling its support for free Kapersky for its customers due to the UK government pulling it from its Systems as it might be a security risk. Just a heads up to anyone running it. I think I'm going to uninstall and go with Avira.

Ironic really, our government pulling software as it might be sending telemetry about computer usage back to who knows where without the users consent... As that's what they want to do to every one of us.

Also its a classic shut the stable door after the horse has bolted. If anything, to avoid damaging collapse of the AV they (Kaspersky Labs) have upped their game and become more transparent since the disclosure. If you do ditch them at least go to a sensible rival, sadly Avira/Avast I would not touch with a barge pole.

As Barclays offered this for free its not like anyone has been short changed. The good news is Kaspersky offer a FREE version anyway if you look for it.

It all seems like a fake propaganda.

"two months ago the news website Bloomberg reported it had seen emails between chief executive Eugene Kaspersky and senior Kaspersky staff, outlining a secret cyber-security project apparently requested by the Russian intelligence service FSB."

How does "bloomberg" see emails??? Is bloomberg some sort of advanced AI that can see emails that other people cant see? LOL :D

"No credible evidence has been presented publicly by anyone or any organisation as the accusations are based on false allegations and inaccurate assumptions," the company said in a statement."

Yeah thought so lol. Absolutely nothing to see here, keep calm and keep on using Kaspersky.

I had not realised you can get it FREE, other than on a short term trial ?
I changed from free avira (big cpu overhead) to free avast, 9 months back.

was not sure whose 'side' you are on 'fake propaganda' by Bloomberg, but you then say 'keep calm and keep on using Kaspersky' ??

Kaspersky were attacked themselves by Israel using Duqu2.0/stuxnet,

kaspersky were criticized for having retrieved potential virus signature files from a stupid NSA employee who had managed documents incorrectly, virus's relating to TeamVewer (GD thread)
The company determined that an analyst did create a signature for files with names that included the string “secret,” but it was for a piece of malware associated with the TeamSpy espionage campaign. The signature included a path specific for that malware to avoid false positives.

The Americans now used this to justify banning the product in the USA ..'lets build a wall' and the UK now cow-tailed to this.

Yes, it got announced in October of this year for the UK market. I was using Panda - it too was great, on par with Kaspersky. I was going to link but if you just google it you will be hard pressed not to get the page these days (ahh the days of surfing and navigating awkard pages and having to use a search engine). :)

Wasn't this thread in GD yesterday? If it was and it's been moved here, then my post has disappeared. I just wrote saying that NOD32 was a better AV option than McAfee and Norton.

There are two 'discussions' (plus the older groundhog day threads)

Thanks, as you say, now a free version.
and if there is no advertising, that should make the setup easier, probably took me 2hours to strip out the rubbish form Avast.
"At the same time Kaspersky Free doesn't come cut with all the usual nonsense like advertising-oriented user-habit tracking and confidentiality infringements – which free AV normally suffers badly from in order to make it financially worthwhile to its manufacturers," said the firm.
