Hi all :)

My brother is looking at buying a new PC for his son (6 years old) who tends to play minecraft, the sims, warcraft, starcraft, UT and hopefully some newer games as and when ie Rust.

He has monitor, psu, mouse etc and just needs motherboard, cpu/gpu, heat sink, memory and case. Looking at up to £400 for the money which currently has him looking at Kaveri.

He have this as a starter:

Kaveri 7850
Corsair 80i (out of stock so maybe an equivalent?)
Corsair Veng. Pro
Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2
Case ?? Generic Cooler master but he hasn't linked it to me. Think it was £30 worth.

Any good? Anything obviously wrong with it or amendments that would make a better system for the same or slightly (I know how carried away we get when speccing systems :D ) more money? Or alternative to Kaveri at this price range for a cheap gaming rig.?

Thanks all :)

edit: I have been trying to squeeze a amd 8320/260x system out of his budget but so far have failed :D

A little over budget, but a better all round system. You can always add a cooler at a later date. The mobo will also allow you to drop an 8320 in, in the future.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Vapor-X OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card £149.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
Total : £423.05 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Cheers mate that looks an interesting choice.

I have a similar cost build with a 260x and a i3-4130 that I have been looking at this morning.

Going to need to dig out some comparable benchmarks as kaveri looks good but an upgrade path to a 8320 or a haswell chip .... ah this could take me a while :D

You could your eye on the MM, see if there is anything good to be had.

I take it he also has a hdd, as it was`nt mentioned.
