Kawashima's Brain Training - Triangle Math...

This will probably sound pretty stupid, but it needs to be asked, if only for my sanity...
I've just been belting through the training tasks on Kawashima's, however, I have a problem. I don't know what to do on the Triangle Math exercise...
The instructions are back at my flat so I can't check them, not that I know if they'd help. The in-game help start bit is also no use (to me.)

Can anyone provide any help for a fool like me?

Edit: I got 2 right and it was with the game misreading my written answers...

8+2+6
 x-y
=

To do that, you take 8+2, and put where x is. Then you take 2+6, and put it where y is. So you have 10 - 8, so you write 2 in the answer box.

Some of these problems have negative numbers too. Those will have a minus sign next to the answer box.

Nice one, cleared things up for me!

I'm really poor at this one though, takes me an age to work out the answers... This isn't good! Still, at least I know how to do it now.
