Me and the gf are plans to go to peak district for bank holiday and weighing up the options and best way to get in the water.

Are there places you can take your own kayaks and just rock up to the a lake /river and start paddling? Or is it all restricted and you have to hire and pay?

Ideally would like to just Park car near a tame water source and go for an explore.
Failing that somewhere you can hire a club kayak or pay a fee to launch.

Having never done this in this way before I don't know what's best

When you say tame water source do you mean flat water? I'd assume so but no experience of the lakes?

Do you have any experience of kayaking and the relevant equipment (eg buoyancy aid etc?). Open water can be dangerous! (even when flat)

If you don't have any experience don't go on anything other than completely flat water imo

certain waters are restricted or not open at all..the River Dove was a test case but access is limited with an agreement between a club and the fishery that runs it
