Keep 570 or 6950 Toxic?

So after I thought my 570 was dying I went and bought a 6950 Toxic (unlocked to 6970). But after installing it, I was still having problems (PC crashing, rebooting, etc), and concluded that my PSU must be at fault.

So, I replaced my OCZ 700W with a Corsair 850W, and now things seem to be running smoothly.

I tested my old 570 with the new PSU installed and it seems to be working ok for now. I was able to play Skyrim and BF3 with no crashes, and ran Furmark for 30mins no problem.

Assuming the 570 is fine, and it really was the PSU at fault, do you think I should keep it and sell the 6950 Toxic? I'd probably get more money for it compared to the 570, as it's more or less brand new and guaranteed to unlock to 6970.

The 570 seems to run the games I've tried a bit better than the 6950(70), but it's a year old and has less VRAM than the 6950 Toxic. There's also the possibility that the card really is faulty, based on the newegg reviews for this particular brand (MSI).

I plan to run the 570 for a few more days just to be sure it's ok, before making any decisions. Sometimes the card would run fine, then suddenly crash with no warning.

The 570 is slightly faster, and if your not running into vram issues, and not likely to run into any until you upgrade, then keep it.

return the 6950 Toxic under DSR i say. You have 7 working days after you buy it to do so.

If it was bought mail order.

It's 7 working days after the goods were delivered to notify the supplier. The goods can be returned after that period as long as appropriate notification was given.

So the OP can give notice now and still keep the card for a few days and then return it or not.

Yes, get on to the manufacturer quickly and initiate it

Supplier not manufacturer.

Can you do this even if it's been used? I didn't buy it from OCUK (naughty, i know :P)

Yes.

You're allowed to "inspect" the goods. To most people this involves trying them out.

The goods do have to be kept in reasonable condition and you should return them with all accessories and in the original packaging if possible.

You're responsible for paying return postage costs and I would suggest a recorded and insured method.

The supplier will probably give you strict instructions on how to package and return the goods so follow them to the letter to avoid problems.

You're entitled to a full refund of the price you paid (including delivery costs) but, as I said, you're responsible for the cost of return postage.

Ok, I sent email letting them know and requested RMA number. Thanks for your help :)

You're welcome, but.....

Have you told them you want to return it under the Distance Selling Regulations and contacted them in a way that they accept?

They should have details on their website of how to give the appropriate notification.

OcUK, for example, require a letter, fax or WebNote giving details of the goods you want to return and the date they were delivered.

Also a standard RMA is for faulty goods.

If you've just asked for an RMA they'll assume you're returning the card as faulty and then just send it back to you when it isn't.

I just followed the instructions on their website for "change of mind" returns - they said to email/fax/phone within 7 days of the day after delivery, letting them know you want to return the item and they'll send you an RMA number.

I emailed them with the item name, delivery date and online order number.

Btw, I noticed that I'm missing some cellophane that covered the heatsink, will something like this matter?

As long as you've followed their instructions then you'll be OK. Each supplier has different requirements.

The cellophane shouldn't matter at all.

I'd delete the competitor name as it's not allowed.

only read this now and all I can say is NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
and surveyor under dsr the postage cost IS NOT refunded, it's only under faulty rma if the fault is confirmed by the seller.

Read what I said.

Under the DSR the postage cost paid to have the goods delivered from the supplier is refunded.

The buyer has to pay the postage to send the goods back.

sorry didn't fully read/understand the your reply, thought you were saying that you get refund for the cost of sending the product back when you were talking about the original delivery cost(I.e for the seller to send the product to you).

I also skipped over the bit where you say that 'you' are responsible for the cost of returning the product to the seller :)

my excuse is that it was late(well it's late now as well).

but I stand by my NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! etc for sending the toxic back :)
