my system is currently as per my spec and in a bit of a dilemma.

come september i will be packin ma bags n will be off to uni.

Either way, i will need to take a laptop with me (which i have about 700quid to spend on) and its whether or not i take the pc too.

As it stands my system is full ATX size, and i could take it as it is, or the idea would be to sell my case, mobo and PSU and go micro ATX.

its either that or sell the lot and buy a really good laptop (so i'd have about 1500quid to spend on it)

any thoughts?

Take the PC as it is, and buy a 15'' laptop. That's my setup at Uni and it works like a dream. You've got the power and flexibility at home, and the portability and ease of use away from home.

You'll be kicking yourself if you sell your PC off and get stuck with a expensive laptop that's not particularly portable, has a very limited upgrade path, and is noticeably slower than your desktop.

I went to Uni with a desktop replacement, and just ended up building my own PC after a year.

I would fully agree with reflux, when I started Uni I got a desktop replacement laptop, and while it served me well I would have been better off with a desktop and a nice light portable laptop (which is what I am using now and its much better). I would take your desktop and just get a cheap portable laptop for working on.

the laptop was only ever going to be 15" as anything bigger and its a tabletop, not a laptop!!!!

i think what reflux is saying sums it up though, my PC is top end, and i don't think any laptop would match, but my biggest concern was would it actually get used if i had a laptop aswell?? But i guess if i had it. it would!

would i be ok sticking with ATX, or going micro ATX. I'm happy either way i think, as the micro ATX i7 boards are great, and i could fit everything i wanted into a micro ATX case (like a lian-li).
At uni will i have space for a full ATX case, or would mirco ATX be better in that you could shuv it in the corner or under the bed, lol

Well I use my laptop when I need to, but when I get home there's just no contest. My desktop is a lot faster and more powerful, and 24'' screen is far preferably to a 15.4'' :D

I wouldn't worry about space tbh - I've lived in three different student houses and in halls, and each place had enough room for my current setup - E-ATX case and 24'' screen. The only real hassle is moving - the PC needs two people to carry and if it ever got broke I would probably jump of a cliff :( :D

Theft is obviously worrying, but a desktop is a lot more difficult to nick than a laptop, for the reason stated above.

i don't plan on going full atx, just a bit to big, lol, and moving it around doesn't bother me to much.

thats great though, didn't really want to sell it, put way to much money in it, lol

for a laptop, hoping to get a fast dual core, 4gb ram, 15.4" screen, and a dedicated graphics card of some sort, and maybe even put an SDD in it (at extra cost obiviously) to try and speed it up!
