Keep losing connection to the internet

Following on from an earlier post, I have changed my setup today to get away from the dire SuperHub3 and since then I have been plagued with connection drops, normally about every 30 mins, sometimes less.

My setup - Superhub 2 in Modem mode into my Asus RT-N56U router (its a few years old now, but barely even used) - Connected to PC via Ethernet.

It's not the Cable going from the Asus to PC for sure, as when the connection drops i lose Wifi to my phone also, so its either one of the routers or VM has got seriously awful timing with one of their random "your going to have awful connection issues for the next 24hrs for reasons".

What I have tried.

1.) rebooting everything including restarting PC restores connectivity, but as stated, doesn't last long.
2.) I've just now swapped out the Ethernet going from the Superhub to the Asus.
3.) Tried updating the firmware on the Asus but it fails everytime before it even starts.
4.) Turned off the option for the Asus router to prioritise traffic as it deems fit.

Does anyone have an suggestions on how I can pinpoint where the problem is originating, maybe some sort of real time software I can run in the background that will log when an even occurs and help me narrow down what the issue is. I really don't want to go back to my original setup.

Thanks
Dan

My first guess would have been the cable between the SH3 and the Asus. Is it too soon to tell if that worked? What are the temps like on the Asus router? They can get a bit toasty and will drop internet if they overheat.

You swapped a SH3 for a SH2 and your connection continued to work?

Not immediately no, I had to call VM and get them to authorize the SH2, soon as they did that yes it worked no problem. I have the SH2ac and although older, it is arguably a better router. I didn't let the Engineer take my SH2 when they put in the new SH3 a long time ago.

It never occurred to me to check for high temps, I've felt it with the back of my hand and it is definitely warm to the touch. I can't see it being overheating issues though as i'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, there's only one Ethernet cable plugged in and the router is sitting on a cold stone surface. Since turning off QoS and changing out the Ethernet cable between the routers I haven't had any more DC's. I will just have to see how I get on today and go from there really, it could have been the cable, it was one of those "flat" types but wasn't an old cable by any means.

Fingers crossed then! As for the temps, does yours have a CPU usage and temp graph in the admin panel somewhere?
