Keep losing internet connection

I'm crap with computers so hoping someone can give me step by step inststructions with my problem.

I have an Acer desktop with XP, everytime I switch the machine on once it's loaded up I have to right click on the monitor by the clock and click "repair"

I'm then able to get onto the internet but after 1/2 hour or so, it loses the internet connect, and I have to repeat the process by right clicking on the monitor again, this keeps happening, I don't have the problem with a laptop, just the desktop.

I have a Virgin BB modem, and have a Netgear WGR614; linking to a competitor wasn't a good idea router, I've paid for assistance via "The tech guys" although they access remotely and get me on the internet, once they disconnect a short time after it loses the connection again.

Any idea's what the problem is please?

*I'm on nights, so will post later if anyone is able to assist*

TIA

Do you get the same problem when you connect directly using the modem itself?

Sounds like a dodgy router, try upgrading the firmware [check 't manual], doing a reset and starting from scratch if it's OK using just the modem.

If through nothing but ht emodem the connection is OK, an dyou only get problems once the router is on, then I'd say the router is either knackered or it plain doesn't like the Virgin modem...

I had the same problem, turned out to be the router.

The fact that your laptop works ok is saying that you have a driver issue, update your wireless drivers on your PC? If you are using the Generic drivers that come with XP that could be the problem. You need the latest driver for your wireless card from the card manufacturer.
