As the title says really...keep the 5ghz 8700k or upgrade to a 9900k?

I have the ROG Strix Z370-f gaming board so I could keep the same board and sell the CPU to cover some of the costs and I game with a 2080ti/Predator 4k monitor.

Am I being silly upgrading here or will I get any benefits from doing it? Apologies if this is a well worn topic but Ive not been keeping up on stuff due to a 2 year old and Im just starting to get back into the upgrade/performance game again.

Well you may have a 2 year old, but a 2080ti and 4k Predator says to me you have spent some dosh over the last year at least :D
My advice would be do absolutely nothing until Zen 2 is retail and we all know what it does. The 9900K could well be old tech and out of the game in a few weeks time............................who knows.

Pointless mostly. I imagine you have a 60hz panel being 4K and the 8700k will have no issues pushing 60fps, and even then the 9900k would only open up a slight gap at very high refresh rates.

Suffice to say your limit more often then not will be the GPU.

Yeah it wasnt cheap but I dont drink or smoke and work in sales for a well known company so my commission can be.....fruitful, shall we say!

That's all right then. i drink at least 2 bottles of Merlot a day. Own my own company so don't rely on any commission..............................i'm still going to wait for Zen 2.

Depending how long you want to hold on to the platform you have. Even if you plan to keep the board for several more year, I wouldn't upgrade just yet. Wait a year, new 10 cores will come out on 400 chipset and you will be able to get 9900k for the low.

Nice one. Sorry, I didnt mean to come off as braggy I was just saying that Im OK about the cost of upgrading, its more will I see any benefit really.

Don't bother, nothing noteworthy will max out a fast 6/12 for a while gaming wise. They'd alienate far too much of the gaming crowd in doing so.
