So I own a Benq XL2411Z monitor, 24" 1080p 144Hz.
Now, in a dumb late night impulse situation, I saw an amazing deal on an Acer XG270HU. 27", 1440p, 144Hz, and Freesync, on sale for £270. And I bought it.
Immediate regret, tried to cancel but too late, and it turned up at my house yesterday.
The dilemma: temptation.
Now that it's here and sitting there in the box waiting to be taken and returned, I'm wondering whether I should just keep it or not.
I have an i5 2500k and an AMD 7970 Gigahertz Edition.
I'd struggle to take advantage of this monitor right now right? Would struggle at 1440p, and no Freesync on my 7970.
But what's been holding me back is that it's a really good deal for a monitor with those specs right? And I'll be upgrading hopefully in the near future, so eventually want a nice 1440p monitor to take advantage of the upgrade no?
And I'm personally very sensitive to FPS, I have to keep my games at a solid 60 or more minimum. Double edged sword, 1440p means less fps, but eventual Freesync would be a god send for me.
I guess as a TLDR, will the price of a monitor like this go down enough in say a year to make returning it and waiting worth it? Or should I just keep it for now, sell my Benq (Hopefully for around £200 as should be getting a new replacement for it due to dead pixels) and eventually make the most of the monitor when I upgrade?
Doing this would mean playing the intensive games at 1080 on the 1440p monitor, which I hear conflicting opinions on how decent or bad that looks. But then less intensive games at 1440p, and a nice extra 3 inches..
That was long sorry, any input much appreciated, thanks!
