Recently got a x79 + 3930K combo so went with phanteks with 3rd fan to keep things cool.

For various reasons, have sold on the x79 combo and gone back to my 2500K.

Just feels like overkill on 2500K. While I will likely, eventually, go 3770K/3780K (or whatever), I am still not sure it's worth having such a huge cooler.

Sure, I would lose some money, but will still make some back, and could then get something like the Gaia?

My 2500K seems to struggle a bit getting over 4.7, and already requires around 1.4V there which am not rally prepared to go beyond.

Could probably make £40+ back going to smaller cooler. Just not sure its worth it or if should just keep?

You'll need that cooler on a 3770k.

Seems like concensus is keep... if only had gotten black, white or blue. Red no longer matches the rest of my setup - not that I am entirely sure why I care about that.

Thought the heat relating to Ivy couldn't be helped with coolers - thought it was down to rubbish TIM, rather than soldered, and the fact that they are so small.

yeah it can be helped on ivys i used the stock intel cooler for a day on the 3770k because my new cooler had not arrived and my temps were 50+ then got the Xigmatek Loki SD963 CPU Cooler for like 15 quid and my temps dropped to 35 and under load dont go higher than 39 with that monster cooler i would expect lower
