I'm playing COD MW2 on my laptop with a i7 3740qm and Nvidia 650 and my cpu cores are at 90c, and my GPU at 85 (max temps in HWMonitor). I play on a hard surface and have disabled the turbo on the CPU (Maximum processor state= 99% in Power Options). Are there any other things in Windows I can do to keep temperatures down? Anything I can turn off or limit? The only thing I can think of is Vsync, which I already have on as without it I was getting 90fps which generates excess GPU heat. The high temperatures happen in any game.

My minium temperatures (i.e. just on the desktop before gaming) is about 50c for the cores and 44 for the GPU...

What I did for my laptop was replacing thermal pastes on the CPU and the GPU, dropped around 15 degrees.

Of course, it invalidates the warranty in most cases.

You could also buy one of those laptop coolers, when you position then fan(s) underneath properly, they cool the laptop a bit better due to it getting a higher air pressure inside.. but, it's going to be a few degrees only, if that.

I paid for mx2 to be used I believe, which is pretty good. It is a year old (but only light use) so I font really want to open it up just yet!

I did think about laptop coolers but like you said only a few degrees...

When im playing games on my laptop on a desk i prop the back of the laptop up off the desk an inch or so using one of the pads from my laptop case. It stops it heating the desk up under it and gives better air flow. The fan comes on a lot less often after i figured that out.
