Keeping a number between 2 pay monthly contracts on the same provider.

I'm on Three pay months, just about to come to the end of my 2 year period.

I ordered a new phone/contract as it was dirt cheap.

I understand the only way to keep the number is to port it to PAYG and then port back to the new contract. How long does this take? Anyone done it recently? I'd seen people recommend avoiding the weekend as this delays things.

It would usually port next working day, as long as it's done before 5pm on a weekday. I'd maybe then leave it a couple of days before porting back again.
