Keeping a PC on its side

My desk is too small to keep my pc vertical, so is it ok to leave it on its side?

Im just thinking about the DVD drive, will it scratch discs etc?

Itll be fine.

Thought it would have taken more space up on its side.

Basically i have to keep it too far away from the wall to allow all cables to get to the back of my case, which just looks stupid.

There's a shelf near the bottom that comes further out, allowing for more room, but its not tall enough for my case...
