I have a new motherboard an Asus maximus 8 itx for my 6700k, which I have had since January. nothing wrong with it, great machine. I've checked to see what bios I'm on and going by the Asus website there's been about 10+ updates since.
Now should I update to the latest bios or leave it alone as nothings wrong.
I haven't got round to overclocking the CPU as I only do it when I need the extra performance.
When I eventually do overclock is it worth updating to the latest bios then? Does it assist with higher/stable overclocking?

I'd update when you get around to OCing. Asus boards have bios flashback if anything goes wrong.

I personally wouldn't update unless you have an issue. Seems like a good way to get a self-induced headache to me. I would however make sure you have latest audio, USB, etc. drivers.

If you aren't experiencing issues then I would leave it for awhile and let the updates accumulate and update every few months

I always keep my boards up to date and have never had a bad bios flash. Asus boards are pretty solid when it comes to bios flashing especially if you use the onboard Ez-Flash tool in the bios or usb flashback if the board has it.

If nothing is broken with the system and your current Bios correctly supports everything within it then dont update. There is absolutely no need.

We test a lot of systems and Bios versions here and often an update of for example CPU microcode can mess up an overclock or efficiency of the system or both.

An update of Bios is not an upgrade of anything no one shopuld see it in this way....

Just out of interest is the microcode stored in the bios chip also if you update a bios and it comes with a microcode update can you still down grade the bios to an earlier bios ?
