Hi all, im more of a PC builder, dont know much on laptops.

Basically my brother has been playing an online game on the laptop for weeks, no issues (a bit laggy but thats just the crap spec)

I decided to reformat the laptop a few days ago, since i did this the laptop keeps resetting while he is on his game.

I've been trying to find the cause, and basically the laptop is resetting when coretemp shows 95degrees. It seems some "auto" shut down at this temp thats causing it.

Now, i dont know if that temp is too high, or normal for a laptop, could anyone shed some light ? Also, the laptop has been fine before the format  He could play with no crashes for well over 7hours, now he can get 1hour max, sometimes its just 10minutes:confused:

The only thing i changed was the BIOS, i've tried about 7 different versions now and they all turn the laptop off at 95. The BIOS's seem very limited, i cant see anything regarding temps and shut downs like you can on a PC.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Adam

Sounds to me like it's turning off to stop it from overheating.

95C does sound a bit high though, maybe you should try cleaning it? My guess would be that the fans and intakes are blocked, so they will probably need a clean-out first.

After that, trying using it on a flat surface, like a desk and monitor the temps with Notebook Hardware Control.

I got quite a bit of fluff out of the fan, the temp idled at 45-50, before it was 70.

Im going to run the game and see how high the temps get now!

I've had the game running 15minutes now and the temp hasn't gone over 75 (currently at 68-70) . Before i removed the dust, it would be 70 at idle and 90 in game right now! So thats a drop of 20 +.

Just had a look at these cooling pads, seem like a great idea. Is there any you would recomend? I seen a Freelogic gell cooling one for a tenner, any good?

If you can't wait until you get a cooler, get a Desk Fan, and blow the air directly at the keyboard area. I do this regularly, with great results.

The laptop seems to have dropped 20degrees just by removing some fluff, the game hasn't crashed on me yet :)

Ill have the game running non stop for the rest of the day and see how it copes :)

must have had a good 3hr session, temp didnt budge past 70 :) Also no crashes :)
