ok.. are you sure the screen going black was not part of windows power saving feature? after 20 mins of not using it, maybe its just turned the screen off to save power?

i dont know what operating system ur using, mine is xp and i put it on a floppy disk, reboot my system and it loads automatically. think vista and win7 may be different, u will have to read and follow the instructions if thats the case.

unless ur just mistaking windows power saving for a black screen, in which case run occt again and leave it for an hour, come back and wiggle the mouse, see the results.

well i wiggled the mouse and no response?
it hasnt frozen while im using it now but i think it happens it i try and do too much at once e.g reload multiple pages/scroll too fast, its as if it is running really slow:confused:

well i havent run it again because i dont know if i could smell something a little toasty:confused: even though the temps were at about 50 on full load and 30 on idle,
i havent run memtest as when i tried to run the cd with the image on it, it didnt work,
is there any other memory testing sofware? or could i use occt and just select memory?

smelling something toasty is never a good thing, but 50C is within the limits of that cpu.

what os are u using?

u can use occt, but it doesnt isolate or interrogate the ram as well as memtest does.

using xp, chuck memtest on a floppy disk, leave the floppy disk in the drive and reboot, it should start running automatically. leave it for 4 hours/ overnight unless an error is found.

ive tried it several times and it either comes up with a error message, or doesnt open anything at all???
is there not any other software that can be run like a prgram e.g occt?

what error message?

its supposed to open its self as u boot, before u get into windows.

u can use occt/prime95 to test memory, but its not as good like i said before. if u really cant get memtest to work then yeah use occt/prime96

i managed to get it running, i just had to go to the boot menu and select the drive:D

it passed with no errors:)
the cas(im guessing is the clocks as standard) was something like 1-3-3-3 11
is that really bad?

does this mean its not the memory or is it set too low?

ok so i looked at the bios settings and the ram was on auto for voltage and i changed it to 2v, this has made it a bit quicker and i think its not freezing as much, half way threw this it froze again, ill try 2.2v
could the voltage of the ram be the source of the problem?

whats it supposed to run at?

how long did u leave mem test to run for?

if it passed and u left it to run for a few hours then ur ram should be fine and no voltage increase is required, the source of the problem is likely to be somewhere else. (cpu)

dont worry about the cas, its just being mis-read by the software.

it should keep looping until you intervene?

i mean either way it passed so its unlikely to be an issue with the ram. you should consider replacing the cpu now.
