keeps freezing after about 5mins

i may wait until i do my new build or get one second hand (if i can)
.instead of making a new thread,
i would like to get amd as it seems to be a lot cheaper for higher frequency's
so should i go for the top phenom (3.40 965) and a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
or go for a 3ghz or something like that, and a cheaper board as i am on a limited budget?
im planning to get the cm840 because im watercooling also,
i dont need a soundcard or graphics cards
or soundcards
and im thinking of getting the corsair 650 tx
but i just need to know what cpu and board i need?

about £200 and maybe a bit more if needed,
i mainly do:
surfing, vid editting, photoshop, music, file transfer, gaming and going to be overclocking(hopefully with more luck)

ok, well doesn't that cover just about everything? :P

i do like amd, but its become obvious that intel is miles infront

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts/PCMark-Vantage,1394.html

from this site, the amd965 and intel oem i750 are the same price, £139.99 if u use the above link u will see that the 750 is way faster, and being oem will not matter to you cause ur gona be overclocking and watercooling.

and id go with this mb: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-120-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1495

so that would be a couple of quid less then what you suggested with the amd + gigabyte, but it will also be a lot faster and gives u the option of xfire/sli in future. only thing is its more than £200.

but the i5 mbs do go lower in price, i just chose that one cause it looked a good spec.

they seem quite good, i thought i7's were hundreds but apparently not,
what does OEM mean??
i am planning on xfire as i am using 2x 4670's atm
also is that website actually a online store?
also i would like to be able to have triple channel for the ram in the future

oem, original equipment manufacturer. basically it doesnt mean anything, same product, just different extras. i believe it wont wcome with a cooling fan (which doesnt matter cause ur gona be water cooling)and it will have a 1 instead of 3 yr warranty (which doesnt matter cause ur gona be overclocking it and voiding the warranty anyway)

tomshardware is not an online store, just a good review site with nice charts to easily compare cpus, gpus etc.

if u want triple channel ram then intel i7 is the only way to go and its expensive atm.

not as good, but very much above average,

that board is good, for amd the 790fx is the best chipset for overclocking. but be aware that its also a very hot hot chipset and its not unusual to be above 60C.

like i said, my intel recommendation is faster cheaper and also its much cooler

the i5 that you suggested is 2.66ghz but the phenom is 3+ and the same price or lower?
is there a am3 board that isnt too hot and is good for what i need? or a i5 bundle?

it is 2.66GHz, but its faster becasue it can perform more instructions per clock cycle, hence the better result in toms hardware.

also it overclocks really well

as for the prices (from overclockers):

i750: £139.99
mb: £127.99
-------------
£267.98
___________

PII965: £139.99
mb: £129.98
-------------
£269.97
___________

its the chipset that runs hot, amd790fx is a hot running chip, but its present on all good amd boards.

it doesnt look like much of a difference to me, more like a board layout thing. i prefer msi to gigabyte myself, they have a good bios and good automatic overclocking utility.

i like the layout of the msi and the colour scheme and the price :)
i think ill go with that and the oem i5 and that should be aq good overclocking set upand should be able to overclock quite abit with watercooling. is that going to be lots better than a phenom ll and board for the money?

yes, i think it represents much better value for money atm, but i wont be offended if you post another thread asking other to be 100% sure :) i would expect anyone other than an amd fanboy to agree with me

not a problem mate, hopefully you will also be able to share this knowledge with someone else who needs it :)

good luck and merry christmas :)
