Picked 2 pairs up today from richer sounds for £100 along with some speaker cable and an optical lead to connect the AV reciever that I have ordered that is coming tomorrow (denon avr-1907). Is there anything else i would need to connect my 360 up? or is it simply a case of pluging the component and audio feeds into the amp and having it work its magic from there?

Reading through the manual that came with the speakers, it says not to lye them down. is there any reason for this? i wouldnt think this was an issue

also apparently they arent magnetically sheilded, so shouldnt be placed near CRT screens, does this apply to a computer TFT and my LCD TV, as i have one either side?

Im also interested in linking the amp to my PC to use for general music and the occasinal bit of PC gaming i do. Can somebody recommend me a sound card and any cables i'd need to do this?

Sorry for the long post and lots of questions guys!

thanks in advance

Benny.

sound cards, best bet is one with digital out, and hook that into a DAC or use the one in your amp if it has one.

Failing that, Mwave cards are supposed to be pretty good.

Should not affect TFT/LCD screens as they don't operate in the same way a CRT does.

ahh rite thanks, i was pritty sure the speaker magnets wouldnt affect the screens, but just wanted to be sure!

ill have a look about for those soundcards thanks :)

you dont know how to hook the Xbox up do ya at all? cos atm all 5 phono jacks are in the back of my TV, i assume if i plug them into the amp that i can just feed it to the tele through that?

The red and white phono carry the audio typically. You could connect them to the amp instead of the TV; or you could connect to both at once using splitters if you desired :)

You can hook all this stuff up dozens of ways.

if your amp has component feeds and you want to use your amp for video switching, then just plug the xbox intothe amp and your tv into the amp aswell.

Other wise just plug the xbox video into the tv, and audio into the amp

If your xbox has digital audio out use that instead then you'll get surround and stuff, (the xbox does that, right?)

okay im a little confused, i want to be able to use the xbox with the surround sound. my amp has 3 component in's so could i not plug all the cables into the amp, because it would save me buying an extension cable for the phono?

TV into amp via optical cable yes? got a optical cable, the optical port on my TV says (digital aduio out(optical) that the one yep?

and to change the Tv to the channel with the xbox on as it will no longer be under 'component', any idea which source ill have to switch it to?

I meant take the component cables from Xbox to AMP

Take digital audio from Xbox to AMP

Take component Video from AMP to TV

Job done.

If your TV has digital audio out, you could route the XBOX audio to the TV and then to the Amp, this would allow playing xbox without amp if you wished using the sound from the TV

ill use the sound from the amp as its there!

so just to run over this once more, i connect the Amp to the TV's (Digital Aduio Out) via optical cable.

then take the component feed from the xbox and plug it into the amp, along with the red and white(left and right) audio phono plugs

That simple?

or when you say 'Take component Video from AMP to TV' do you mean by some other cable?

sorry i really am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff.

edit: a friend just asked me 'why would you want to feed video through and audio amplifier?', good question, can anybody help?

It's not an Audio Amp its and AV (Audio/Visual) Reciever you have, the reason for running the video signal through the reciever is to enable you to switch bettween audio and visual sources via the reciever instead of switching the video signal at the tv and then seperatly switching the audio on the amp. It's all about convenience!
