I'm looking to get some of these, although I fully intend to go and listen to them, does anybody have any opinions on them, I use my hi-fi mainly for the sound on the TV/DVDs, I listen to the odd bit of music (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ect)

My Current amplifier is a Yamaha DSP-AX620, and several Arcam 8p power amplifiers.

Is the sound from them good, or does it sound similar to the Bose Acoustimass range which I personally think sound terrible.

What are you powering with those 8Ps?

If you like music I would be looking at some bigger speakers up front and then filling the surround channels with your smaller satalites not going for small speakers all around, then you have the best of both worlds.

I have 4 8p's, they are Bi-amped powering the front speakers (Mission 702e), the centre speaker (Mordaunt Short MS905C) and the rear speakers (Mordaunt Short MS302)

I want to get the Kef eggs because I have recently bought a Samsung LCD and wanted to wall mount the TV and speakers. However if it will have a negative effect on the sound I think I will have to leave it and stick with proper sized speakers.

if your looking for small speakers Anthony Gallo's are the way to go.

Not in my world, but each to their own. Small speakers are always going to be a compromise.

I would say that if you are watching a lot of movies that the best upgrade you can make will be a mid range sub like an MS309 or a BK XLS200. That Yamaha is a the only weak link in a good system IMHO.

I have the Kef 1005 surround system. They are small speakers yes but the chassis is solid aluminium so they have a nice weight to them plus the with a seperate amplified sub they don't need to be providing any bass. I bought them primarily for surround sound to go with my M61 samsung but i'm happy enough with them playing music. I'm certainly no audiophile so as you say go listen for yourselve. Again like yourself I just listen to the odd bit of music now and again in the living room and didn't want to have a stereo in there also with extra speakers. My old technics stereo and bookshelfs have been relegated to another room :) I'm using them with a denon 1906 which i'm told is quite good with music as far as AV amps go.

I've recently gone from some large floorstanding speakers to a set of Mordaunt-Short Genies (very similar to the KEF 2005.2 eggs).

To be honest, if it's music you want then a large pair of speakers can't be beaten. The sound is much more natural and smooth, and tends to fill the room better. I find my new speakers are better for films though, especially since I never used to have a sub with my old system.

If you're looking at the KEF 2005.2 package, check out the Genies too. When I auditioned both, the Genies were £700 and the 2005.2 KEFs were £600. I thought that the Genies were definitely worth the extra £100. However, I've heard that Stevenoakes Hi-Fi are (were?) doing the KEFs for £400 and that price they're an absolute bargain.

I used to have a pair of 2005 Eggs on the rear of my system when I had a 5.1 channel AV system. Can't say I was that impressed. I'd previously run a variety of speakers on the rear including JPWs, MS 902s, MS25is, Cresta 3s, and MF MC4s. Regardless of magazine comments about rear channels not requiring larger speakers, I'd definitely dissagree. The MF MC4s I used were big and ugly 2 way stand mounts, but sounded pretty damn good and were noticeably better than anything else I'd run, even when used only as surround speakers.

If you really need 5.1, get a decent pair of rears.
Personally I've gone back to pure stereo (even for films) as I believe that the improvements you can get by spending all the budget on the stereo outweigh the loss of rear channels.

All depends on what you want really.
My room isnt that big and it cant stand having large floorstanding speakers or bookshelve speakers as rears so the Kef 1005 are just the job for me, small and for my ear they sound fine.
Again ive got them hooked upto a Denon 1906 av amp.
