Hello guys and gals,

So I've been using these Kenwood LS-722 speakers for the past 5 years or so in my room and I'm looking to actually get an amplifier to suit them.

The original was a Kenwood stacked Hi-Fi system which broke and was thrown out. Currently I have an old Philips FA9400 as an amplifier which only has 2 speaker outlets and some crappy speaker cable (which is then split at the speaker and put into all 4 sockets at each speaker... [I know, FAIL.]).

Now, what I would like to know is: am I wasting my time with these speakers? I've got the specs of the speakers in the image below, are these worth buying an amplifier for?

Also, what is the point of the 'presence' connections at the top?

Thanks for any input received!

Forget the "presence speaker", it's not worth wiring it up.

If you can find one, pick up a sonic impact T amp, it's less than £50 and with a decent power supply will blow away amps costing twice as much.

Is that the "Sonic Impact Portable T-Amp Gen 2" you're talking about? This is all I really need to be honest, an input and then 2 speaker outputs!

What do you mean when you say "a decent power supply"? Do you not get a power supply when you buy one?

I've only tried the Sonic Impact Portable T-Amp Gen 1, but I imagine the Gen 2 is a little better, it certainly looks nicer...

It depends who you order it from but it should come with a 12v PSU. If it doesn't come with one you can order one separately, just get a good quality one low ripple voltage.

I have a homemade version of the sonic impact and have tried 3 or 4 different PSU's along with batteries and there is a noticeable difference to the sound when swapping power sources...

Order it in the morning I think. It's certainly going to do the trick.

Are the speakers I have of good quality (judging by the quick spec sheet/look of the speaker itself)?

And is there any advantage over the 15 year old speaker cable I'm currently using to some new stuff with "awesome" built in?

To be honest they don't look amazing from the pics, but it's hard to tell how they sound without having heard them myself. ;)

If I were you, just see how they sound with the T-amp, and if you can try and borrow another pair of speakers to see how they compare... The T-amp won't be holding your system back, that's for sure. :)

The speakers will have to do in the interim as I don't have a lot of money to be throwing about at the minute... £60 for the T Amp should be a good buy I think after reading various reviews.

Cheers for the advice! Much appreciated and I'll let you know how I get on...
