Seeing as the game releases for early access in 4 days, and the original has been a staple of my gaming life for about 12 years now, I decided it deserved it’s own thread for us nerds!

Initial play videos have just been released by the well known players from their visit a few weeks ago, and it doesn’t look too bad so far if you ask me.

I am preparing to lose literal days of my life pretending I understand orbital mechanics.

I'm definitely going to wait a while before buying it, $50 for early access with a lot of mechanics missing. I'm sure it will all come in time, but I can wait :)

Saying that the recommended specs are fairly high.

  • RECOMMENDED:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
    • Processor: Intel i5-11500 @ 2.7GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core @ 3.6GHz
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 60 GB available space

It’s a fair comment - personally, after the 3 year delay I’m happy they’ve got something to release and then gradually upgrade over time like the old game did. They’ll be relying on the hardcore fan base of the first game to raise some capital and go from there. It also means I can learn how it’s all working but by bit instead of being thrown in at the deep end with everything available…

I’m not surprised the specs are fairly high - given how slow you could make the old game run when you got into ships with thousands of parts it’s going to need some fairly heft processing power, especially at 4K.

I shall let you know how I get on with it next week!

I will be getting early access, but ~£45 for early access is absolutely insulting - I guess they know we will buy it anyway

$50, £42, but add on some because the theme is to shaft people in the UK this year.

Otherwise looks a good game, just overpriced.

I do like the in built change to procedural wings though, making planes was my least favourite part of the first game.

Agreed - making large wings with lots of panels was a horrific way of doing business. So many of mine just flopped about when they hadn’t clipped together properly…

I dunno I'm torn do I get it on release or wait till its further down the development

50 quid is a lot for an early access tho

Beefy requirements, day one purchase though, I trust the developer

I agree, and if it was any other game I wouldn’t go near it. It is taking a risk that they don’t just shaft the community and rug pull the money to the Cayman Islands with a large mojito, but given the effort that’s gone into it so far I suspect it’ll be a good long term investment.

Hmmm, I love the look of this which is frustrating. Never played KSP, don't even know why, but it seems pointless buying the original however I'm wary of eary access for such a price.

Get the first one - it’s a well polished game that’s been in development for well over a decade now and will teach you the basics and ideas behind orbital mechanics and the dreaded rocket equation.

After 6 months the sequel will have had a chance to get bugs ironed out and more gameplay options added in so you can hit the ground running.

You won’t be disappointed.

…and just posting this because it’s awesome.

Why are the recommended gpu specs so high when it still looks like absolute ass...just says to me they haven't optimised it in the slightest.

Quite disappointed how this has turned out based on early footage. Loads of bugs, texture work outside of the craft parts is mediocre and the high early access price aren't exactly confidence inspiring.
Love me some KSP but feel like they are just going to rely on modders to fix this.

From the vids I was watching yesterday, the specs were based on a very early build and it's already going to be substantially better performance.....but was badly communicated.
I'm also considering how complex the ships are that they are basing performance numbers on, as well as what they call 'acceptable' - as personally I found drops in to the 12-15fps range common with large ships early on in the first game's EA phase, but it didn't affect my enjoyment in the same way it would with almost any other type of game.

I do agree that ~£50 is too much for the state it's currently releasing in and will wait for a few things before committing: Price drop, better idea of performance, better visibility of when it will at least get feature parity with the first game (and whether that will be via DLC - I bought the first one so early that I got all the DLCs for free, which was a big factor).

Until then I think I might have another play through the first one as there is plenty I never managed to do!

edit: just checked CDkeys and it's currently showing a pre-order price of £28.99, but unable to order yet....If it actually launches at that price I'll probably just YOLO and go for it :D

Got it - won't run !! lol

But I do have issues with my 6800XT losing screen focus at times which is annoying, and no idea how to fix sadly

EDIT: Now works! is a free sync issue - working fine with v sync off now
