Key organisors

Hello,

Has anyone found a decent key organisor that's been reliable and not fallen apart?

I'm after something I can separate two sets of keys and attach and remove the car key fob as required.

I've been looking at stuff on Amazon but it's the usual 50/50 of praising and scolding reviews.

Ideally I would be able to either have one organisor that separates house front, rear keys and car key fob or something modular where I can just carry front keys or rear keys and attach and remove the others as required.

Also use keys late at night when kids are sleeping and the dog thinks he's going out when he hears them so would be nice to silence them!

Cheers

I use an OrbitKey organiser with a tiny metal ring on, and an airtag on that. Me and the wife share a car so the car key is on a mini carabiner that clicks on and off the tiny metal ring on my organiser. Nice and compact

Thanks for the reply

How long have you had it and where do you get it from, do you find you have to keep tightening it up and can you use it one handed?

I’ve got a leather orbitkey that I apparently got in late 2017 and it’s still working great. Easy ish to do with one hand, doesn’t need tightening up.

it’s a slight faff but no more than finding a key in a bunch. I like it.

There are dozens of different designs, be that OrbitKey, KeyBar, KeySmart. Just google up the first few hits for "EDC Key Organiser".
It mostly depends how many keys you're wanting to pack into these brick-things, how much you want to spend, and whether you want one with a carbon-fibre/titanium colour-matched scheme that will make the EDC freaks weep with envy.

You'll probably want to look at the Bellroy one either way, though.

Thanks, I went as far as ordering a pack of these yesterday because I have been obsessing over this key thing and came across this idea, I ordered M6 and they are too big, the 6mm bar is too big to thread through the keys. M8 would be even bigger.

I gave up on the idea after also realising that all my keys won't fit on one

Mad this EDC stuff, never knew about it before, I discovered it looking for a key organisor and I can see how it can become a thing, even started following a couple of YouTubers!

Thanks, how did you get yours, direct?

I got it from Amazon. I think I'd buy another one if this one wore out, it's aged well and has had 7 keys on it for ages. Less jangly.

The solid metal equivalents don't appeal to me at all, same as those weird metal box wallets. I don't want some bit metal lump of stuff banging against everything in my pocket.

They must have used to sell on Amazon, you can still get them on there but they are £40 and imported from the US

I'll have a look at ordering direct and compare it to the Jibbon which is very similar and toolless

@Relentless81 apologies M6 is the correct size I use, I've got 2 bunches set up on these and only found 2 keys that didn't fit, I just drilled them out slightly.

No worries, I did try the keys on there but the bar is M6 like I mentioned and the keys all have a 6mm hole, stupidity on my part and CBA to drill them out. Anything smaller like M5 or M4 doesn't have a long enough bar to hold all the keys I need unfortunately

Just picked up an orbitkey from the pen store in the Trafford centre, was on offer with a free multi tool, fits all my keys and the tool so pretty chuffed despite the cost of it

Now I need to find a tiny carabiner for my car key to clip on and off when I need it

There's two main sides to EDC - The 'scene' lot, who care more about it looking cool and being all co-ordinated... and the practical lot who care more about function, covering needs and being ready for what challenges they might encounter.
Both have their extremists, with the former dropping many hundreds of pounds on a titanium bottle opener with some knife-makers' brand name, and the latter humping huge rucksacks full of kit that would cope with every imaginable apocalypse, just to go down the shops!

Do browse the EDC sites, as you'll discover plenty of cool useful kit... but be careful not to get sucked down any of their rabbit holes, too!

I use a key smart I’ve had it for years. It’s still going strong. I had to buy the extensions though because the front door key is a one of those thicker style ones.

Works great.

I always liked the idea of the key port, I was tempted to get one when they first came out with a built in light but the entire process just seemed like a pain and add to that it wouldn’t fit the key for my front door I never went down that route.

That's a good description based on what I've seen, I'm a function over form guy and definitely not interested in carrying knives but I have just bought some mini carabiners and black split rings

Oh god it's happening isn't it

Knives in general get very boring and very expensive, I find... but a Swiss Army knife or a pliers-based multitool could be worth considering.

At it's core, EDC is just putting a bit more thought into what you carry. It's no different to hikers and soldiers who look to save weight and space, except you extend that thinking to what you carry most of the time.
It only becomes "EDC" once you start spending a lot of time browsing catalogues and chatting on forums about it.

I'm up for a new wallet and a multi tool, would really like to slim my wallet down to the bare minimum and a multi tool would have come in use on a fair few occasions

Anything worth considering? Has to be in black!
