I've a Honda Civic key which is worn away so it doesn't work. How does the chip work inside it ? If I get another key cut from a working not worn away key, will the new key work if I hold the old key near the ignition.
Is just it costs £80 for a proper brand new key !

I don't know if it helps, but when I bought a new remote unit for my old Ford Focus key, the transponder was just a little glass vial, looked a bit like a pill, that sat in the front of the key fob, separate from the blade part. It didn't actually enter the ignition, just needed to be adjacent to the ignition barrel. If the Honda key follows the same principle, hopefully you should be able to swap out the key blade for a new one, attach it to the fob, and away you go.

Tape the old key under the steering column. Or take the cover off & tape it inside if you are OCD.

honda keys have a transponder in the metal. you cant get it out.

you need to buy a new key.

I tried to get a flip key cut for mine and it turned out to be a gigantic waste of time.

Thread about it here

my last post where I gave up

you could tape the old key next to the ignition barrel. but that would be dumb and would make starting your car with a screwdriver a bit easier :p

So if I cut the blade of the key off it won't work is that right ?
I've had a key cut and I can get the car to start but I have to take the old Honda key off the key ring and push it right next to the ignition socket. I think that's worth £7.50 for a spare key though, I may get another proper one too :)
