Anyone help me with this issue ?

Today my son was on the PC playing COD4 and a message about an update appeared which caused the PC to reboot.

he then shouted me through where Windows tried to repair itself but was unable to do so.

After attempting this several times I can now get to my Windows log on but both USB Keyboard and mouse are not powered up or working but both are fine when going into BIOS or boot menus prior to Windows starting.

Try some different usb ports, a lot of them use different controllers so the other may work. Or try safe mode, that may use generic drivers for the ports.
Once you get back in windows you'll probably need to reinstall the missing usb driver, guessing the current one is borked.

Modo's suggested exactly what I was going to - put the mouse/keyboard into different ports as you'll probably find a driver issue with one of the USB controllers when you finally get into Windows Device Manger. Happened twice for me where Windows disabled a USB controller because it detected a potential issue - on one PC I put the mouse into a USB3 port to re-enable the USB2 controller, the other PC had all USB on one controller so I ended up needing to use a PS/2 adapter on the mouse to get it working!

Thanks for the help.

Eventually got it working by restoring it from a backup but it would not let me
do that earlier on.

All very strange.
