Keyboard and mouse not working

I used my Pc this morning and it was working fine. I shut it down and went out for a couple of hours. When I got home and booted it up, I found the keyboard wasn’t working. There were no lights on and no keys worked, but I could use the mouse. Rebooting PC didn’t help. I thought it was a loose wire, so I tried checking the USB ports. I was unsure which one was the keyboard at first, so I replaced them all. After that both the keyboard and mouse are not working. The lights on the mouse are out as well. If I take the cable out and put it back in it lights up for a second, but that’s all. I found the keyboard does work when first switched on and I can get to the boot menu. But doing a system restore didn’t help. And starting in safe mode doesn’t help either. Iv tried different USB ports and its the same for all of them.

Never mind. After trying pretty much every solution I could find online and nothing worked, I eventually had to try reinstalling windows. That did the trick. No idea what caused the issue, but at least its sorted now. Just a pain I now need to redownload a lot of stuff.

It's almost always automatic drivers/driver updates, or general system corruption over time.

I try to do a fresh install every two years or so.
