Keyboard and mouse stop working when playing games on the Source engine

Hi guys,

After installing my new graphics card my keyboard and mouse stop responding randomly. It happens about every 10 seconds for about 5 seconds each time and is really anoying when in the middle of a battle in DOD:S etc. I end up getting angry and just exiting the game :(

It only happens when playing in games that run on Source which leads me to think that it's some kind of problem with the game?

Any help would be great :)

I recently had a similar problem. I was experiencing this in a couple of games, including WoW and Chaos Theory. Controls would freeze for a few seconds at random intervals. It started happening after I installed the latest Catalyst drivers (6.7). I reverted back to some older drivers (6.5).......problem solved.....for me anyway :). Same card as you btw (x1800xt). If you happen to be using 6.7 try some older drivers.

Ah right, i am indeed using the 6.7's :)

Thanks mate, i'll try that and see if it fixes it. And here was me thinking i'll have to reinstall steam and all my games :D
 
I had a look on the Steam forums and it seems that it's quite common. I managed to fix it by using a suggestion on there to set the process priority to low for both Steam and DOD:S.
