Hi,

My uncles mouse and keyboard have stopped working after installing Vista Service Pack 2. Has anybody else experienced this and is there an easy fix? Any help most appreciated. ( The keyboard and mouse are wired, not wirless)

I blame vista too. Its probably not at fault here though, more likely theyve come slightly unplugged. Problem persists after a reboot, and have you plugged them into a different computer yet?

Have you tried uninstalling them via device manger and then: switch off, unplug them, reboot and then plug them back in and see if vista recognises them again?

Do the keyboard and mouse have their own drivers if they do download the latest versions and install these.

Thanks for the answers. He cant access the computer because he cant enter the password as the keyboard does not work.

Alex: im not sure if they are usb or ps\2. I presume USB
Jon: No they havent been tried on another PC yet, will do.
Ill get him to try unplugging them both and rebooting, if he hasnt already done this.

Thanks again.

Mm, they're not both going to be broken.

Tried plugging them into different ports? Tried booting in safe mode?

It is difficult to uninstall drivers without a mouse, and difficult to boot in safe mode without a keyboard. Interesting problem. They're very unlikely to be broken, I'm going to place my bet on the service pack 2 he installed being corrupted.

Can you access the bios? If hitting delete doesn't work, it's starting to look like the usb ports have failed and the service pack is coincidence. The only keyboard Ive known to fail is one I spilt fruit juice on

Thanks again for all the help. He just updated me and said that the keyboard was ps/2, so he tried a USB and it worked. He done a system restore to before he installed the service pack. I guess the service pack was corrupt/missing driver?

Thanks again
