'keyboard error or no keyboard present' boot up error

Firstly hi everyone!!

Last year I built my PC and all has run perfectly since until yesterday.
I turned it on only to be greeted on boot up by the error message

'keyboard error or no keyboard present'

This is before it has even fired up the Operating system so I guess its hardware based.

The keyboard is a usb connected Logitech wireless usb keyboard and mouse.

As the PC has no PS2 ports I will borrow another keyboard from work to see if that makes any difference.

I have already tried removing the battery and resetting the cmos on the motherboard but to no avail.

I now get two error messages ...the keyboard one and the default bios settings one.

Only difference in operation is that of late my girlfriend has started turning off the power switch at the rear of the pc after closing down the operating system so our little boy cannot turn it on.
Would this be enough to fry or foul up the mobo??

Mobo is only a year old like I said so so hopefully its not terminal!!!

Help required please!!!!!

What is the keyboard?
If it's a USB one is it connected directly to one of the computers rear USB ports?

Aslo have you tried a different keyboard?

My guess would be the keyboard is either faulty, or possibly the connector has been knocked slightly out (when it's being switched off at the rear).

Switching the power button on the PSU unit may sometimes causing extra voltage to the mainboard and causing the short.

You can try discharge and reset the PC by unplugging the power cord to the PC, then holding down the power button for over 20 seconds.
Then reconnect keyboard and the power cord.

Using other keyboard like USB KB if you are using the PS2 KB now.

I will add the keyboard to the original post but it is a Logitech wireless usb keyboard connected directly to the motherboard.

PC is USB only (ie no PS ports)

I will borrow an alternative keyboard from work to see if that makes any difference.
