my old mans just rang me and says his keyboard is playing up, he thinks hes pressed something because when he tries to type a number he only gets the symbol above it, he presses 7 and gets &, same for full stops and commers and so on.

just thought i'd ask as someone may already know and save me having to go round to try and figure it out.

Scroll lock knocked off ?

or the shift key has stuck, jab it a few times and it should come loose. ;)

its not the shift key as his text comes up in lower case as normal and goes into upper case when he presses the shift key, also scroll lock doesnt seem to effect that.

any key with a secondary use like / key has ? above it, he always gets the ?and cant get it to type the /

hope that makes sense

hes sorted it now, he restarted and it didn't do anything, he then turned it completely off and when he turned it back on 5 mins later it was ok. :)

strange

Best IT Tech info ever,

" Have you rebooted ?"
translated means
"Get lost and stop wasting my time until you've done so" :)

i thought a restart was a reboot

a restart is where you restar the computer with the power still in the circuits
a reboot is a complete re boot from a system powedown
