Keyboard For Typing

I've always found Microsoft keyboards to have a good action for typing and more than passable for gaming as well if you want. I can't recommend any specific models as mine is about 3+ years old and they don't make it any more but I'm sure it has been replaced by something of equally high quality. :)

I have a 3 year old Dell keyboard, its completly stock layout shaped like a brick. I find it very good for typing though, if a litle noisy. Would suggest going for the standard layout keyboard rather than a curvey one.

i have a microsoft media keyboard, would've like one with some usb ports on it, but tbh, a keyboard is a keyboard surely?

no, that's the point. Some keyboards (like the one I'm using now) are awful for typing causing frequent missed keys and mistakes. If a keyboard is to be used for a lot of typing, it is worth spending extra for one that minimises errors.

MS Comfort Curve is the keyboard i've found myself speeding along on the most, and its around £13.

I now have the Ergo 4000, which i'm quite a bit slower on, but i find i'm getting better over time.

Both are great for typing with.... well i find that when i think i've hit a wrong key i generally havnt, and i think the curve and layout is part of the reason, keys feel laid out more naturally to where the fingers where to want to go, well i suppose thats the point of an ergo keyboard, lol...

Strange really, about a year or two ago you would never caught me near an ergo keyboard, but now i can't stand typing on anything less.... i did find starting on the comfort curve made the transition much easier though as that less curved/ergonomic, and the keys are laptop style and much easier to hit.

Everyone has there own preference though, but for £13 or so you've not got much to lose giving a comfort curve a shot.

As semi-pro said, MS keyboards seem great for typing, i've always used MS kb's since i first got one as a present, which they stop producing and i destoyed it... :( (RIP Internet Pro Keyboard - One with the extra buttons and usb ports)

I'd say microsoft keyboards, we use thousands of them at work and never get any complaints about them.

I am currently uing a Microsoft keyboard, and I find that it is OK, but I want to get one which is better for typing.

I like the general sound of the "Das Keyboard", but the styling isn't really to my taste, however it is something I'm sure that I could like.

The Happy Hacking Keyboard is what I want, but I can't really justify spending almost £200 on a keyboard, no matter how good it is (well, unless I felt it was so good I would get that money back :p).

I want a plain keyboard (the only thing I don't particularly like about my current keyboard is that it is too curved, and not standard [i.e. F-Lock annoys me, and I have a biometrics device that I never use]). I will be using Ubuntu Linux on my new computer, and I have found that the special keys on my keyboard do not work (and are not detected by Ubuntu), so I want to use a normal keyboard.

I dislike the current style of having as many curves as possible on a keyboard to make it look "modern" as it does not appeal to me, and thus I want to get something that is both good quality, and also plain.

Thanks for the thoughts so far. (I wish I could get an IBM Model M keyboard to be honest :p).

If you want plainness then I don't think you can beat the suggestion of Cherry by platypus, I've not used one personally that I recall but they do seem very solidly built and very plain. :)

Best bet is to go somewhere to try somebody else's keyboard... I was in the Microsoft camp with a few Internet Pro's or whatever they were called, but since I got my G15, I hate using others. Hence I'm about to buy:

for my Ubuntu machine as I've got a programming assessment coming up. My housemate has one, and it has the same action as my G15, so I am happy to buy one.

Don't suppose anybody else can say which is "best" for typing, it's whatever's comfortable for you :)

I don't like responsivness from Logitech keys, too soft with not enough feedback (spongey)

Using a Cherry G83-6105 PS2here, feels good. It has a rubber backing so crud doesn't go into switch area, just pop off keys and brush any bits.
