So, pretty sure this sort of things been done but just thought I'd mention it and see what sort of interest there was.

Take something like this (the well known ergodox):

maxresdefault.jpg

Make it from mechanical keys.
Have the other half under the other hand.
Put an additional thumbstick under each thumb (one controlling the mouse cursor) kind of like how the orbweaver is set up.
Add mouse buttons to one side or the other.
Add a switch to allow it to be twin "joystick" style thumbsticks (so toggle from mouse to joystick under the left hand).
Add a scroll wheel.

All done in a tidy way so it didn't get too cluttered.
Let it have 3 full keymaps programmed to it and the usual lighting type crap we have today.
Allow a choice of MX switches.

Most of that's been done (or I wouldn't be discussing the idea here :D ) but taking it to that sort of extreme could be quite nice. Who'd pay.. £110 for something like that? Single colour backlight.

I'm currently using a very tired old Merc stealth Keyboard which has the gaming pad incorporated on the left hand side...

They no longer make this keyboard steel series bought the product to remake from ideazon many years ago.

The trouble is when you got used to this left hand set up there is nothing on the market to replace it. What you are doing I'm guessing would fit nicely into the gap provided by them ceasing production of this great product and updating it to today's gamers needs.

I think it's a cool idea.
