I'm not sure whether this belongs in the windows forum, or the hardware forum. Please move it if I have posted incorrectly.

So a family member has been having virus trouble, as the only person within our family who knows what task manager is, I have been chosen to fix it.
Now I've got the machine here at my house with nothing else.
I managed to find a spare power cable and VGA connector, so we're all set.
Meanwhile the family member has gone away for a few days.

My problem is, I cannot access windows whatsoever, no matter what boot mode I attempt to use in the BIOS.
It is a relatively old machine, which I think only works with a PS/2 connector. Unfortunately I only have USB keyboard/mice. I can power-on and land in the BIOS, where I can play around and everything is dandy.
Soon as I press enter for Windows XP Home Edition, I lose all response from my keyboard/mouse. I thought that once windows had loaded, maybe the hardware will be recognized and begin to work again, however because there is more than one windows account, I am stuck at the login screen.

Does anybody know of any quick solutions, preferably that don't require any additional components?
I thought there may be a way to load a driver up from BIOS or something, I am quite amazed the keyboard works there and not elsewhere.

Had a look around and can't seem to find it, will continue to look, shall try to find a BIOS manual on the internet too.

Try turning on w/o kb plugged in, waiting until login screen, then plugging in. Be patient, my old system would take several minutes to pick up the kb and initialise.
