I know this is going to sound daft, but the @ and the "" (quotes) keys are reveresed when I type emails into the Outlook, but ok when I type in this form!??!? Can anybody tell me;

a) What the correct keyboard/language settings are for my laptop (purchased in the UK from Dell and fine for the last 3 years - I've re-installed windows - without any other apparent problems), and
b) Why this is happening???

Thanks as always...

Language settings make sure they are on UK.

Also in the keyboard settings make sure they are on the UK too.

Both are available from the Control Panel.

At a guess I'd say your Microsoft Office/Outlook settings are set as:
English (United States)

You can change that by opening up Word or Outlook and changing your default language to English (UK).

Yeah, you're on default US "English" layout. You had the option to set it in setup, but if you check regional settings in control panel you can change it there.

Drop me an email and I will help...

I've noticed that it happens ti me in fiefox from time to time. I guess there's a set of keys you hit hat switches it into American mode :/

Perhaps you have an American keyboard then.
For UK the " should be on the 2 key and the @ should be over by the left shift .

To change the settings go to the control panel and select regional settings.
In the regional options tab change country in the drop down box.
There's another one to change on the advanced tab too.
